I reached for something and saprize! Either there are a lot more bugs in my garage than I thought or this is one dumb spider that’s gonna starve.

White Lightning still sucks

Jul 29, 2008 Author: RickySilk | Filed under: bikes, review

10 years later White Lightning is still a crappy lube. I’m not even sure why I decided to try it again.

It only works for about 3 hours of ride time and after that I got the squeaks bad. There is no tell tale single link squeak to let you know things are getting frictiony. One minute you’re nice and quiet and the next it’s like Deebo on a beach cruiser. I don’t like getting surprised but a sudden onset of the squeaks 1 hour into a 4 hour ride.

On top of that it’s so gunky. It’s advertised as a lube that keeps your chain clean by sloughing off old lube with dirt stuck to it. What they don’t say is that the old lube sloughs off right into your cassette and forms solid grey matter between your cogs.

Maybe I applied it wrong? I didn’t read the instructions.

It seems like a lot of lubes these days have application rules. I know I’m lazy but I’m not really into that. I just want to wipe the chain, lube the chain, let the chain dry, wipe the chain and be done. It’s back to Finish Line Dry for me. I keep a bottle of wet around too just in case.

Inflammatory article about “thuggish” cyclists in Chicago

I’m sure this guy is just trolling for suckers with this story. Saying a bike is made of “cockamamium” is fightin’ words!

Fools Gold will be fun

I just realized it’s only 3 weeks away. I read today Jeremiah Bishop is doing the 100. I bet there’s gonna be some more heavy hitters showing up for the 100. It outta be pretty fun standing around the keg with those guys. I kinda thought about jumping into the 100 but man that would hurt. Maybe next year.

The promoters posted the new route map. It’s pretty much the same minus some of the really eroded horse trail. It’s actually 50 miles instead of 50+ this year too…. or so they say.

The bands playing saturday night seem like good party bands. It’s gonna be an EPIC WEEKEND!!!

Visit to the Out-laws

Jul 22, 2008 Author: RickySilk | Filed under: bikes, kids, life, photos

Spent several days down in Ormond Beach with the out-laws. Pretty decent trip. I got in a couple of quality rides and a lot of beach time. Waves were pretty fun on the morey boogie.

The kids really enjoyed playing on the beach. They really like the tide pools the east coast beaches have, and the nice lazy gradual drop to the water as opposed the the very quick drop at St George.

The rides were kinda boring but it’s always nice to do something different. It was so flat my taint was getting a severe working over. The only time it felt natural to stand up was going over the Granada Bridge. The second ride I figured out I needed to put it in the hardest gear and stand to give the taint a little break.

It was a lot of this.

I did manage to find a little of this at Bulow State Park. That place is dank. I rolled up on some wild pigs rootin’ but I’m not a fast enough draw with the camera.

Nothing like riding in the Daytona area to make me appreciate what I have in Tallahassee.

Wet, Wet, Wet

I’m tired of the daily thunderstorms. I’ve been dreaming of dry trails. Not only that but the lawn is growing too fast and when I have to mow more than bi-weekly I get ornery. I know we need the rain… but…. dadgum!

My earphones got ripped off twice on Red Bug, time to take the pruners out on a ride.

This photo found it’s way to my inbox again. It still cracks me up when I see it. Gotta be careful out on the dance floor!

Munson Hills trail work

Jul 15, 2008 Author: RickySilk | Filed under: trails

Foster hosted a bike ride with rakes last Thursday to help out some of the sandy spots down there. It sucked to ride on right after we were done but it’ll be good down the road.

Raking

Just when I was getting relaxed and confident there were no snakes around today, BAM!!!!

Pygmy Rattlesnake

That pygmy rattler will “kill the shit outta you”!

Bob and Foster had their catalytic converters cut out from under their trucks while we worked… err… rode… with rakes. I feel lucky they didn’t steal mine.
