I was ready to hit it again with some time off after Bump & Grind. Started back up 6/16 looking to get a few weeks of big hours in. No plan really, just trying to ride as much as I can.
It’s gone pretty well. 31 hours and 17000 kj’s in the last two weeks. Didn’t quite reach my goal last week… I think I jumped in a little too quick the first week and spent half last week cooked. More of the same this week but my crotch is looking forward to getting back into the shorter harder stuff.
Yesterday, Big E had the morning ride slot so I had to do a little wet root practice in the afternoon. The revolts on wet roots make for a wild ride. I’ve always thought it was easier for me to go hard on the mtb and now I have proof. Yesterday I rode 4 torture loops plus the commute through overstreet. Time was 3:17 and work was 2286 kj’s. Last sunday I did a big road/dirt south georgia loop. Time was 4:11 and work 2339 kj’s. It’s just more fun to hammer the dirt I guess.
I’ve been hungry all the time. Eating everything. My tummy has been a little upset. I figure it’s kind of like tossing a bunch of chemicals into a bucket, at some point there’s gonna be a reaction. It’s not all bad though. It’s awfully cute when Lil E scrunches up her face and says PPPPP-UUUUUU. They haven’t gotten to the age yet where the smell of someone’s demonic fart makes you gag.
For some reason Big E has been bringing home Snickers ice cream bars. They are my kryptonite. I have a lot of will power when it comes to junk food but those things break me down every time. They are soooooo good. When it comes to Snickers ice cream bars all pacing and discretion goes out the window. I devour them all.
The 09 is a major design change. Shock is in the front triangle now. Only one bottle cage. I guess they were the last of the big box manufacturers that had 2 bottle cages on a dual suspension after the Scalpel changed this year. Orbea still uses the old Scalpel design but are they big box? I liked the old Scalpel design. I would like a 22lb dual suspension bike.
Saturday the BikeChain.com mtb ride was on.
A confrontation with the BRC ended with hugs and kisses.
Clocked in 2.5 hours then hit the Moe’s. After our bellies were full we went to Zoinks to meet our favorite cartoon superhero Scooby Doo. The place was full of meddling kids.
Sunday was a 4:10 epic up/through South Georgia with KB, Jimbo and Cliff Dogg. We found some new roads with broke (for cars) bridges.
We passed the Carmichael compound.
Old Centerville was a little mushy and if that wasn’t uncomfortable enough we were swarmed by more horseflies than I’ve ever seen in my life. I don’t think that’s an exaggeration.
Cliff wanted to rest at mile 63.
16:40 for the week, dadgum. I’ve got some mean saddle sores boilin’ up. I wonder if I can do a little more next week….
Clark Kent sent me this link. Really funny.
Video from stage 5 of the Tour de Suisse. Looks like a long drop.
This loop needs a little tweaking but it’s got huge potential. I’d like to continue North to Metcalf then west to Old Centerville and back in. Several dirt sections and mostly low traffic roads. The dirt section of Old Magnolia road is really nice. A cocoon like canopy.
