Jim Smart and Atomic Cycling put on a great inaugural cyclocross race at Jack McClean Park last Saturday. The turnout was pretty good for Florida cross. I got there early and helped tape the course with Tom Gillis and his son Graham. It was fun reminiscing with Tom about old times. He also shared some parenting wisdom when Graham wasn’t around. Thanks Tom!
Races started at 10 with the Masters. Those guys started like they were shot out of a canon but it only took the course a couple laps to have her way with those that went out to hard. The winner was a 45+ guy who came from out of the top 5 to win. Local Keith R. took 35+ sporting a who-me-fast look wearing a t-shirt and baggies.
Seemed like everyone liked the course. One thing that could be done to make it a little more cyclocrossy would be to put a barrier at the bottom of the steep grass hill after the sand pit to force a run up. That would be pretty mean though.
I’ll be racing the event next year for sure.
All my pics are here.
Brian Pace just posted his sports in pictures and I couldn’t resist. I don’t know him but I know he’s got a good sense of humor.
Hit the music.

In case you’re not up on your late 80’s hip hop. That’s Big Daddy Kane.
