Erica’s tubes

May 25, 2007 Author: admin | Filed under: kids, life

Erica had a doctors appointment in Jacksonville this morning. They wanted to run a VCUG on her and see if there was any improvement with her urinary reflux. There was a little improvement but not as much as we hoped. She’ll need to go back in another 1 1/2 years and at that point if it hasn’t fixed itself she’ll probably need surgery. That sucks. Fit guys dieing

May 21, 2007 Author: admin | Filed under: life

Every time I see a story like this one, “Man, 53, dies at the Bay to Breakers finish line“, I always question whether all the hard training I do is worth the risk of death. The guy was pretty fit for a 53 year old, apparently running about a 60 minute 12k. I always tell my wife that in most of these cases these guys trained a lot and were fit but they had bad diets which gradually clogged their arteries. It doesn’t matter how much you train a bad diet will clog your arteries. I avoid all that stuff and I hope to avoid an early death too. Click read on for more. (more…)

My Birthday

May 16, 2007 Author: admin | Filed under: life

I turned 35 today. I don’t really celebrate birthdays anymore. Frankly I’m not to happy about getting older. The last couple years I’ve begun to feel older, physically. I don’t like it. This is the first birthday I’ve had where I feel a little distress about age. 30 didn’t bother me, but this one does a little. I think 40 might really bother me.

Smoky Sunday

May 14, 2007 Author: admin | Filed under: life

smokeOn Sunday I rode in the morning and noticed a distinct smoke smell in the air but didn’t really notice that it was especially smoky. I got home, showered, went to lunch with family, enjoyed some full belly chill out time with the kids and around 3:00 pm went outside and saw what’s in that picture above. It’s blowing in from the Bugaboo Fire

UPS Shipping Tip

May 11, 2007 Author: admin | Filed under: bikes, life

I shipped my first large item via UPS this morning. It was my old KHS Alite 4000 frame and fork I sold on ebay. I shipping it in a Cannondale bike box I had laying around. I should have checked the UPS site before I used that box because if I had I would have know that to ship in a box with dimensions 47×30x11 would cost $45 but to ship in the Cannondale box at 47×30x12 it cost $102 dollars. DOH! So I lost money in a big way on shipping cause I only charged the guy $35. Moral of the story is, it’s not the weight of the package as much as the size so pack your stuff in the smallest box you can.

Off weekend for me

May 7, 2007 Author: admin | Filed under: bikes, training

Off from some family duty that is. In-laws in town means I get some good quality me time and I spent it on the bike. 2 hours on Saturday and 3 hours on Sunday all on my new fully rigid Jamis Dragon. I’ll post pictures later. Read on for my saddle time exploits. (more…)

Whacky day on the bike

May 3, 2007 Author: admin | Filed under: bikes, training

Tuesday I rode some trails I ride every week at least once a week and hit the deck 3 times! I can’t remember the last time I went down that many times in the same ride. At the end of the ride I had a severe case of the WTF’s? I thought about it though and it’s not so bad. Read on for the play by play. (more…)
